Influenced By Podcasts
Growing up, if I was working out or wanted time to pass, I would throw on some music in the background. Podcasts never crossed my mind and were considered an older person thing. Now I can't remember the last time I went a whole week without listening to a podcast. For me, podcasts allow me to stay up to date with everything going on in the world while doing my daily tasks. They allow me to get my mind off things.
There are two main podcasts that I listen to weekly, and they are both offered on YouTube and Spotify. These two podcasts are "The Pat McAfee Show" and "Bussin' With The Boys." These two podcasts are both hosted by former NFL players who invite guests to share personal experiences while keeping listeners up to date with the latest sports news and events. These podcasts have influenced me and impacted my life because of the quotes and experiences that they have shared through their platforms. I bought multiple items from their merchandise stores and other products that they have mentioned through promotions.
After reading Chapter 12 in the book, I learned that people are more open to listening to paid promotions and ads from their favorite talk show hosts because of the authenticity and credibility. This statement is true because if I am watching TV with commercials or ads on YouTube, I either skip them or don't pay attention to them and scroll on my phone. The book also states that 65% of podcasters listen to ads and don't skip them. "The Pat McAfee Show" has introduced me to multiple new products that I use like Seat Geek and Cash App, that I would have never found or given a chance of trying out in the past.
I will end with a quote that Pat McAfee ends every show with, and it is something that I have incorporated into my life. He says, "Be a friend, tell a friend something nice, it might just change their life." This chapter and podcasts have opened my eyes to how much they influence me on a daily basis, with quotes and even certain ads.
Insightful post Keegan. I agree, I used to think that podcasts were an old person thing, but it has really been tailored towards our generation. Interesting mention on the ads you mentioned in your write up. I never thought about how people skip so many ads on Youtube, but are willing to listen to one on a podcast. Thanks for sharing!
