Turning Back The Clock

In college, you are at a point in your life where you gain more and more responsibility daily. College is often referred to as the best time of your life, but some days it feels like the exact opposite, with all the responsibilities you could be balancing on your plate. Some of your friends are working jobs, some are traveling, and some are in college. But we are all in the phase of adulting, and now you're being told you're too old to be doing some things.

This past Monday, my friends and I did the exact opposite. We turned back the clock, and we did everything that college is not supposed to be. We were kids again. "I'm proud of you, Alan, never change." Alan Garner states in the movie Hangover 3, when he is quoting his father at a funeral. This movie quote sticks with me and reminds me it's okay to be a kid once in a while.

Throughout last Saturday night all the way through Sunday evening, we got close to a foot of snow. Sunday night, we got a text that school would be cancelled because of the snow. Next thing you know, I am on my phone texting all my friends that we need to play a football game in the snow like we did when we were kids. Monday afternoon, a handful of 18 to 23-year-olds go out to the stadium and make a miniature football field with the snow. One of the cool things that I noticed was that we all play on the actual football team here at ONU. It was really cool to see all of our teammates in a different element of football where everything wasn't so serious. We were out there for two hours just playing football, tackling, and laughing, not worried about anything else in our lives.

At a point in our life that could feel like we are moving in fast forward, and it feels like you're playing more of catch up then anything. Don't be afraid to do something out of the norm or be a kid again. I had a blast hanging out with my friends on Monday, and I look forward to our next snowfall because of it. Don't be afraid to turn back the clock.

  1. Hi Keegan! This is amazing, I wish I was able to go out there and just have a good time in the snow. That feeling of being a kid again is very rare. I hope you all had a bunch of fun and got to be warm afterwards.

  2. Great message. God answered yours prayers. I was working or else you would’ve seen a linebacker like no other. Over a year off, this has given my body a lot of time to heal and recover. Has never had this much time to recover ever. With that being said I feel like I’m in the best shape of my life and my mind is even sharper. I definitely have it still in me to play some ball. @ESPN

  3. I love that you guys played in the snow! My friends also played in the snow, but we went sledding with trash bags. It was definitely nice to be able to forget about our responsibilities for a couple of hours and just have fun together. I love that you are encouraging others to do just that!
