Bad News Bears

After football season, I found myself with more free time, which allowed me to try new things. In high school, I played basketball all four years, and the sport has always been a big part of who I am. During my freshman year, when my friends and I heard about intramural basketball, we decided to create a team. The Bad News Bears were formed that day, and two years later, we are still playing together today.

The Bad News Bears were back in action last night for the first time since the fall semester, but the game did not go as planned. We played with only five players after injuries derailed the team during football season. To make matters worse, our opponent entered the game ranked third in the league with an 8-2 record. Despite the odds, we picked up right where we left off last semester and jumped out to an early lead. At halftime, the Bears held a 21-15 advantage in a low-scoring game and appeared to be in control.

The second half, however, told a different story. Fatigue set in, and the opposing team came out of the break hitting 3-pointers consistently. They took the lead with 10 minutes remaining, forcing the Bears to play catch-up, which is not our style of play. The final score was 49-39, handing the Bears their first loss of the semester.

The Bears will have a chance to bounce back Thursday night against The Steppers, who sit atop the league with a 4-0 record. It will be another tough matchup, but the team is hopeful to get several players back from injury. With the playoffs approaching, securing a win and a full roster would be a major boost.

In my past blogs, I often share experiences that help me step away from daily stress and reset. Being part of The Bad News Bears gives me another opportunity to do that while spending time with my friends. Win or lose, I am grateful for the opportunity to continue playing a game I grew up with, alongside people who make the experience even more meaningful.
