Social Media Workshop

This past Friday, students in my social media class participated in a social media workshop on campus. It was my first time attending a workshop, especially one focused on social media, so I approached the event with an open mind. Overall, the experience was positive. The workshop featured multiple speakers with professional experience, providing valuable insight into the social media industry.

While several speakers offered strong presentations, one stood out during the second session: Vince Tornero. From the moment he entered the room, his energy was noticeable and engaging. He kept the audience attentive while delivering meaningful and practical insights. Tornero serves as president of Wessler Media, where he works with clients to maximize their social media presence.

His presentation, titled "Reel Talk," focused on examples of social media reels that were both successful and unsuccessful. He shared key strategies for creating engaging, "scroll-stopping" content. Among the main takeaways were the importance of starting videos with a strong hook, keeping edits short and impactful and maintaining simplicity. He also presented examples from content created at the Ohio State Fair, noting that the most successful reels were often the most authentic and straightforward.

Attending the workshop and hearing from Tornero provided a new perspective on the possibilities within social media. He emphasized that anyone can begin creating content with basic tools such as a smartphone, a tripod and creative ideas. The experience reinforced how accessible and impactful social media can be when used effectively.

Overall, the workshop was both informative and engaging. It gave me greater appreciation for the work behind successful social media content, and I look forward to attending similar events in the future.

  1. Hey Keegan! I have also never been to a workshop, so going in, I was curious about what to expect. I like how in your blog, you made sure to point out what stuck out to you. I didn't attend Vince's session, but I was able to look through his pamphlet, and it looked very interesting. I like the point you made about how Vince mentioned the top-performing reels were the most authentic. I agree that the workshop was informative and engaging. I learned many skills about effective social media strategies.

  2. Hello Keegan! I too have never been to a workshop before. It was interesting to see how the day was laid out and then begin to learn so much from all of the speakers. While I didn't pick all the same sessions as you, I was glad you pointed out what stuck out to you because I was able to get the "spark notes" if you will for each of them. I'm glad you had a positive and learning filled experience with the workshop!
